NLS Book Club - Scaling the Wall - Session 1
Tue, August 11, 2026
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM CT

Join the New Lawyers Section for our 2nd Annual Book Club for Busy Lawyers. This year we are reading Scaling the Wall: One Man's Journey of Healing Childhood Trauma to Find Fulfillment and Success, by Christopher Earley, a personal injury attorney out of Boston.
This well reviewed memoir follows Chris Earley’s early career and how he confronted personal traumas to build a successful and fulfilling private practice. Follow these links for more information and purchasing details: Goodreads, Amazon.
Our very own NLS Members, Kyle Manderfeld, Benjamin Buford, and Nicole Knight will lead discussions in three sessions from August-October, with only a third of the book being discussed during each session.
ADDED BONUS: The first 10 registrants will receive a free signed copy of the book graciously donated by the author. AND, the author, Chris Early will remotely join the discussion during the final session held in October.
The program is FREE for all NLS Section and Student Section Members. Regular members get a discounted rate of $100 when registering for all 3 sessions. Registrants are responsible for purchasing their own copies of the book.
MAJ encourages registrants to register for all three sessions using this link. However, if you are unable to attend all three, you can register for each session individually, following the links below.
Course Learning Goals:

- Discuss the tension between outward professional success and unresolved internal struggles.
- Evaluate how anger, perfectionism, and competitiveness can affect attorney conduct and professional judgment.
- Identify signs that personal stressors or unresolved trauma may be influencing professional behavior.
