Legislative Advocacy
You represent your clients in the courtroom and MAJ represents you AND your clients at the state capitol. MAJ’s legislative advocacy on behalf of consumers Minnesota capitol is the cornerstone of MAJ’s formation and its work today. The MAJ legislative program is one of the most essential services we provide to our members – especially as we face increasing barriers to justice for your clients. Our profession depends on the strength of MAJ’s legislative success. The MAJ lobbying team is the only entity truly committed to protecting the rights of consumers who have been harmed and is a respected voice for justice in the halls of the capitol by both sides of the political aisle.
MAJ’s lobbying efforts are directed by members through our Legislative Committee. The Legislative Committee is chaired by a member leader for the two years of the Minnesota legislative biennium. Typically, the MAJ lobbying team is gathering potential policy changes and ideas from members throughout the year, which culminates in a series of Legislative Committee meetings in the fall of each year (September, October, & November). Those meetings are used to narrow our policy focus for the coming legislative session. Those priorities are set by analyzing the impact on our members’ practice and clients as well as the legislature’s make-up at the time.
MAJ members are encouraged to participate in our legislative agenda in any way they are able. For more information on how to participate, please contact Carla Ferrucci at cferrucci@mnaj.org.
