ANNUAL MAJ AWARDS
The Minnesota Association for Justice seeks nominations for the following awards. Awards will be given during the MAJ Annual Conference Awards banquet.
MEMBER OF THE YEAR
To be awarded to a member of the MAJ who, by their contributions to the organization in the last year, has advanced MAJ’s mission.
COMMITTEE CONSIDERATIONS
- An individual who has shown a commitment to MAJ and our mission through significant committee and volunteer work.
- An individual who has demonstrated the highest ideals of our profession and who has exemplified legal excellence, professionalism and ethics.
- An individual who has advanced the mission of MAJ by creating, supporting or initiating new products and services to our members.
- An individual who is a dedicated member of MAJ and has been actively involved in MAJ activities.
OUTSTANDING TRIAL LAWYER AWARD
To be awarded to an attorney-member who has demonstrated courtroom excellence, professionalism, and a commitment to advancing and protecting the rights of individuals and the American justice system.
COMMITTEE CONSIDERATIONS
- An individual whose efforts, courage, litigation or innovative legal work results in the creation of a more just society.
- An individual who is involved in civil/community activities.
- An individual who has supported other members and acted as a mentor and/or role model.
- An individual who achieved a significant result in a case that assisted consumers or changed the law for the better in MN.
LIFETIME CHAMPION OF JUSTICE
(AWARD FORMERLY KNOWN AS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD)
To be awarded to an MAJ member who has a proven legacy of commitment to justice, the profession of law, and MAJ over a career lifetime. This award is intended to be one of the highest honors bestowed by MAJ. It is intended to recognize an attorney in practice for more than 25 years.
COMMITTEE CONSIDERATIONS
- An individual whose efforts, courage, litigation, or innovative legal work results in the creation of a more just society.
- An individual whose career has been devoted to the representation of those in our society least able to uphold their own rights; to the preservation of the right to a trial by jury; to equal justice under the law and equal access to justice and to the promotion of cooperation and camaraderie within the trial bar.
- An individual who is involved in civil/community activities.
- An individual who has been an active member of MAJ for over 25 years.
MICHAEL J. EHRLICHMANN PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD
To be awarded to a member of the public whose advocacy on behalf of Minnesotans who have been harmed and has advanced civil justice for all.
COMMITTEE CONSIDERATIONS
- An individual who has shown courage in the face of adversity to challenge the status quo and change the system for others.
- An individual who has dedicated time to advancing the cause of justice.
- An individual who has made an important contribution to the law on behalf of injured Minnesotans.
- This award is to honor an individual who is not an MAJ member.
NOMINATIONS SUBMISSION AND DECISION MAKING PROCESS FOR AWARDS
- Awards Criteria
- PLEASE NOTE: To be considered, a completed nomination form, as well as a letter of support that explains why the indidvidual is being nominated, and how the individual meets the award criteria must be submitted. We will not be considering any nominations without completed forms and a letter explaining the nomination.
- Nominated by the membership.
- Chosen by Nominations committee.
- Not necessarily given every year.
- Nominations form with any supplemental materials relating to the selection criteria.
